Attractions

Trollholmsund
Trollholmsund is an attraction with an area consisting of dolomite (limestone) that is formed about 700 million years ago.

A Sami legend tells that a herd of trolls walked over Finnmarksvidda to Porsangerfjord. It was just before sunrise, and they were looking for a hole large enough for them to hide. They did not succeed, and turned to stone when the sun came up.

The place is named after Trollholmen, located just east of the mainland and Trollholmsundet. There is a marked trail from the parking lot down to the "trolls". You can also find Lapp Rose (Rhododendron lapponicum), which must have lime, unlike other rhododendrons that prefer acid soil.

Roddenes
Roddenes Nature Reserve is located in Porsanger on the eastside of Porsangerfjorden between Lakselv and Børselv. The area was protected in 1964, on the basis of the characteristic beach ramparts that were made from the land uplift at the end of the last ice age. The area is rich in geological deposits, and is easily accessible. Stabbursnes Nature House and Museum took the initiative to create a geological nature trail in the area. The Nature trail is a round trip of about 2.7 kilometers. Along the way you find information boards that tell about the different geological occurrences. The round trip takes about two hours, including stops at the different locations. There is also a fireplace with a lean-in in connection with the path so that it can be a nice little day trip for those who desire it.
